The application of bFGF is a critical component for embryonic stem cell culture systems and is necessary for maintaining cells in an undifferentiated state. Degredation of the full length bFGF N-terminus results in a truncated bFGF147aa protein, when the protein is isolated from biological sources. The N-terminus extensions influence the localization of bFGF within the cell, but do not affect the biological activity of bFGF. Therefore, there are no detectable differences in biological activity between the full length bFGF-154aa and the truncated bFGF-147aa recombinant proteins.

Description: Growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF-11) is a member of transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β) family. It binds to the TGF-β receptors ALK4, ALK5, and ALK7 and activates the SMAD signaling pathway (Ho <i>et al.</i>). GDF-11 regulates the development of the olfactory system, retina, and pancreas, as well as anterior/posterior patterning of the axial skeleton (Lee and Lee). GDF-11 is an endocrine factor expressed in skeletal muscle, brain, and dental pulp (Kondás <i>et al.</i>). Studies in mice showed that GDF-11 regulates muscle and cardiac aging, and stimulates neurogenesis by remodeling blood vessels (Katsimpardi <i>et al.</i>; Loffredo <i>et al.</i>; Sinha <i>et al.</i>). This product is animal component-free.

It has neurotrophic effects on neurons of the central nervous system and promotes growth and survival of dopaminergic neurons and astrocytes. VEGF also promotes growth and survival of vascular endothelial cells, monocyte chemotaxis, and colony formation by granulocyte-macrophage progenitor cells (Ferrara <i>et al.</i>). VEGF-165 contains two polypeptide chains of 165 amino acids each. This product is animal component-free.
