Description: Nectin-3 is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that belongs to the nectin family. Its precursor is 549 amino acids in length and contains an extended signal sequence of 57 amino acids, an extracellular domain (ECD) of 347 amino acids, a transmembrane segment of 21 amino acids, and a cytoplasmic region of 124 amino acids. It is predominantly expressed in testis and placenta as well as in various cell lines, including epithelial cell lines. Nectin-3 plays a role in cell-cell adhesion through heterophilic trans-interactions with nectin-like proteins or nectins, such as trans-interaction with PVRL2/Nectin-2 at Sertoli-spermatid junctions. Nectin-3 is also involved in the formation of cell-cell junctions, including adherens junctions and synapses.

Description: CPEB2 is highly similar to cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding protein (CPEB), an mRNA-binding protein that regulates cytoplasmic polyadenylation of mRNA as a trans factor in oogenesis and spermatogenesis. Studies of the similar gene in mice suggested a possible role of this protein in transcriptionally inactive haploid spermatids. The protein encoded by this gene is highly similar to cytoplasmic polyadenylation element binding protein (CPEB), an mRNA-binding protein that regulates cytoplasmic polyadenylation of mRNA as a trans factor in oogenesis and spermatogenesis. Studies of the similar gene in mice suggested a possible role of this protein in transcriptionally inactive haploid spermatids. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been described.

Description: Adaptins are important components of clathrin-coated vesicles transporting ligand-receptor complexes from the plasma membrane or from the trans Golgi network to lysosomes.  Together with medium and small subunits, adaptins form a heterotetrameric complex called an adaptor whose role is to promote the formation of clathrin-coated pits and vesicles and to recognise sorting signals within the cytosolic tails of transmembrane cargo molecules. Gamma-adaptin protein belongs to the adaptor protein complex 1 that plays a role in protein sorting in the late-Golgi/trans-Golgi network and/or endosomes. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Golgi apparatus. Cytoplasmic vesicle, clathrin-coated vesicle membrane.
