Description: p40 (p63 delta) is a marker recently determined to be highly specific for squamous basal cells in the immunohistochemistry (IHC) application. The current more routinely recommended marker, p63, appears to have less specificity compared to p40, especially on squamous cell tumors. The ability to differentiate between lung adenocarcinoma vs. squamous cell carcinoma is difficult and has bearing on the different therapeutic avenues for each subtype treatment. p63 antibody's ability to distinguish between the tumor types appears to be inferior when compared to p40. The ability to utilize an antibody probe for p40 as a squamous cell marker bolsters its use for future sub-classification of lung cancers, especially by immunohistochemical techniques.

Description: Beta-defensins (also designated BD, and hBD in human) are small cationic peptides with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity. Produced in mucosal epithelia and neutrophils of several species, Beta-defensins are developmentally regulated. Human b-defensin 2 is locally regulated by inflammation and is the first member of the b-defensin family that is locally inducible by inflammation. The murine homolog of human b-defensin 2, which is called b-defensin 3, is present in the respiratory system and in low levels in the epithelial cells of the intestine and lung. The unique murine b-defensin 2 (Defb2) is not expressed in airways of untreated mice, but is upregulated in the airways by lipopolysaccharide and may contribute to host defense at the mucosal surface of the airways

Description: A novel, nonhemolytic antimicrobial peptide (human beta-defensin-3, hBD-3) was isolated from human lesional psoriatic scales and cloned from keratinocytes. hBD-3 demonstrated a salt-insensitive broad spectrum of potent antimicrobial activity against many potentially pathogenic microbes including multiresistant S. aureus and vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium. Keratinocytes and airway epithelial cells are cellular sources of hBD-3. Tumor necrosis factor alpha and contact with bacteria were found to induce hBD-3 mRNA expression. hBD-3 therefore might be important in the innate epithelial defense of infections by various microorganisms seen in skin and lung, such as cystic fibrosis.

Description: Enolase 1 is a multifunctional enzyme that, as well as its role in glycolysis, plays a part in various processes such as growth control, hypoxia tolerance and allergic responses. May also function in the intravascular and pericellular fibrinolytic system due to its ability to serve as a receptor and activator of plasminogen on the cell surface of several cell-types such as leukocytes and neurons. Stimulates immunoglobulin production.MBP1 binds to the myc promoter and acts as a transcriptional repressor. May be a tumor suppressor.Enolase 2 has neurotrophic and neuroprotective properties on a broad spectrum of central nervous system (CNS) neurons. Binds, in a calcium-dependent manner, to cultured neocortical neurons and promotes cell survival.Enolase 3 appears to have a function in striated muscle development and regeneration.

Description: Twenty human keratins are resolved with two-dimensional gel electrophoresis into acidic (pI 6.0) subfamilies. This antibody recognizes acidic (Type I or LMW) and basic (Type II or HMW) cytokeratins, including 59 kDa (CK4); 58 kDa (CK5); 56 kDa (CK6); 52 kDa (CK8); 56.5 kDa (CK10); 53 kDa (CK13) and 45 kDa (CK18). This is a broad-spectrum antibody, which has been reported to differentiate epithelial tumors from non-epithelial tumors. Many studies have shown the usefulness of keratins as markers in cancer research and tumor diagnosis.

Description: Recombinant Human Interleukin-2 is a highly purified protein with a molecular weight of approximately 15,300 Daltons. The chemical name is des-alanyl-1, serine-125 Human Interleukin-2. It is produced by recombinant DNA technology using a genetically engineered E. coli strain containing an analog of the human interleukin-2 gene. Genetic engineering techniques were used to modify the Human IL-2 gene, and the resulting expression clone encodes a modified Human IL-2. This recombinant form differs from native Interleukin-2 in following ways: 1) it is not glycosylated; 2) the molecule has no N-terminal alanine; 3) the molecule has serine substituted for cysteine at amino acid position 125; 4) the aggregation state of molecule is likely to be different from that of native IL-2.

Description: Defensins (alpha and beta) are cationic peptides with a broad spectrum of antimicrobial activity that comprise an important arm of the innate immune system. The α-defensins, which include NP-1, NP-2 and NP-3, are distinguished from the β-defensins by the pairing of their three disulfide bonds. In addition to antimicrobial activity, NP-1 exhibits chemotactic activity on dendritic cells. NP-1 is expressed as the C-terminal portion of an inactive precursor protein, which also contains a 19 amino acid N-terminal signal sequence and a 45 amino acid polypeptide. NP-1 contains a six-cysteine motif that forms three intra-molecular disulfide bonds. Recombinant Human NP-1 is a 3.4 kDa protein containing 30 amino acid residues.

Description: Transcriptional regulator that plays a central role in Notch signaling, a signaling pathway involved in cell-cell communication that regulates a broad spectrum of cell-fate determinations. Acts as a transcriptional repressor when it is not associated with Notch proteins. When associated with some NICD product of Notch proteins (Notch intracellular domain), it acts as a transcriptional activator that activates transcription of Notch target genes. Probably represses or activates transcription via the recruitment of chromatin remodeling complexes containing histone deacetylase or histone acetylase proteins, respectively. Specifically binds to the immunoglobulin kappa-type J segment recombination signal sequence. Binds specifically to methylated DNA.

Description: This antibody recognizes both the free and protein-conjugated (either soluble or cell bound) form of biotin. This MAb is highly specific to biotin and shows no cross-reaction with other structurally related compounds. It has a very high affinity for biotin and is excellent for use in various amplification techniques. In some applications, localization of biotinylated probes with avidin produces unacceptably high background staining. Anti-biotin antibody may be substituted to decrease this noise.

CF® dyes are Biotium's next-generation fluorescent dyes. CF®594 is a deep red fluorescent dye (Ex/Em 593/614 nm). It yields the brightest conjugates among spectrally similar dyes, and has excellent photostability.

Description: Non-heme iron-containing dioxygenase that catalyzes the stereo-specific peroxidation of free and esterified polyunsaturated fatty acids generating a spectrum of bioactive lipid mediators. Converts arachidonic acid to 15S-hydroperoxyeicosatetraenoic acid/(15S)-HPETE. Also acts on linoleic acid to produce 13-hydroxyoctadecadienoic acid/13-HPODE. Has no detectable 8S-lipoxygenase activity but reacts with (8S)-HPETE to produce (8S,15S)-diHPETE. May regulate progression through the cell cycle and cell proliferation. May also regulate cytokine secretion by macrophages and therefore play a role in the immune response. May also regulate macrophage differentiation into proatherogenic foam cells.
