Description: CPOX is a 454 amino acid mitochondrial enzyme that is localized to the inner membrane space of erythrocytes. It participates in the sixth step of heme biosynthesis by catalyzing the formation of protoporphyrinogen IX from copropophyrinogen III. Mutations in the gene encoding CPOX are the cause of coproporphyria, an autosomal dominant disease characterized by skin photosensitivity and neurological disturbances. Symptoms are often experienced as attacks, which include severe abdominal and nerve pain. People affected by coproporphyria overexcrete copropophyrinogen III in feces and urine and the enzymatic activity of CPOX is found to be approximately half that of normal, leading to a decrease in overall heme synthesis. There is no cure for coproporphyria, but preventative treatment to relieve symptoms usually involves dietary changes and avoidance of drugs and alcohol.

Description: Myocilin (MYOC), also known as TIGR or GLC1A, is a secreted glycoprotein of the olfactomedin family, originally identified in trabecular meshwork cells after prolonged treatment with glucocorticoids, and, independently, in the retina . It may participate in the obstruction of fluid outflow in the trabecular meshwork. Defects in MYOC are the cause of primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) . MYOC has a molecular weight of 55-57 kDa, besides, a 66-kDa form, which could be a result of post-translational modifications, has also been reported in some researches .

Description: This peptide is derived from gliadin wheat protein residues 31-43. It elicits an innate immune response by upregulating expression of interleukin (IL)-15 and cyclooxygenase (COX)-2. This peptide also promotes expression of CD25 on monocytes and macrophages, expression of CD83 on dendritic cells, and p38 MAP kinase activation. Treatment with this peptide allows immunodominant epitopes (57-68 and 62-75) to induce T-cell activation and enterocyte apoptosis.

Description: ZC3H12D Antibody: ZC3H12D, also known as MCPIP4, is a member of a family of novel CCCH-zinc finger proteins that includes ZC3H12A, a protein that is thought to be involved in macrophage activation, host immunity and inflammatory diseases. ZC3H12D is highly expressed in spleen, intestine, and colon. Similar to ZC3H12A and ZC3H12C, ZC3H12D expression in murine macrophages is also increased after treatment with lipopolysaccharide (LPS), although not to the same level as ZC3H12A. This pattern of expression was not duplicated in human-derived macrophages, suggesting it also may play a different role in host immunity and inflammatory response.

Description: Nogo Receptor (NgR) is a glycosylphosphoinositol (GPI)-anchored protein that belongs to the Nogo recptor family. Human NgR is predominantly expressed in neurons and their axons in the central nervous systems. As a receptor for myelin-derived proteins Nogo, myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (OMG), NgR mediates axonal growth inhibition and may play a role in regulating axonal regeneration and plasticity in the adult central nervous system. NgR may be proposed as a potential drug target for treatment of various neurological conditions. Additionally, NgR may play a role in regulating the function of gap junctions.

Description: Maelstrom Antibody: The mammalian homolog of the Drosophila protein Maelstrom is expressed in the male germline and localizes to the sex body in spermatocytes and the chromatoid body in round spermatids. Similar to its expression in Drosophila, Maelstrom is a component of nuages, a germ-cell specific organelle and is thought to be essential for spermatogenesis and transposon repression during meiosis. In humans, Maelstrom has been found to be expressed only in the testis and in various cancer cell lines. Treatment of these cell lines with the demethylating agent 5'-Aza-2-Deoxycytidine significantly upregulated Maelstrom levels, indicating that its expression is regulated by DNA methylation.

Description: PHF14, a novel plant homology domain (PHD) transcription factor, controls the proliferation of mesenchymal cells by regulating PDGFR alpha expression in embryonic development. PHD finger transcription factors are concerned with transcriptional regulation by interacting with modified histones (2), and dysregulation of several genes encoding PHD finger transcription factors, such as ING1 and RBP2, has been found in human cancer diseases suggesting these factors have an important role for cancer cell proliferation. PHF14 is a potential target for new treatments of lung fibrosis (1, 3).

Description: NALP5 Antibody: NALP proteins include the apoptosis regulator APAF1 (apoptotic protease activating factor 1) and mammalian NOD-LRR proteins and are thought to be involved in inflammation and reproduction. NALP5, also known as MATER, is a maternal gene required for early embryonic development in mice. Increased NALP5 expression was observed in two neuronal injury models, and transient expression of recombinant NALP5 in neurons induced caspase-3 activation and apoptosis, suggesting that NALP5 also plays a role in caspase activation and apoptosis in injured neurons, and may thus represent a novel target for therapeutic treatment in neurodegenerative disorders.

Description: TNPO3 Antibody: TNPO3 is a member of the importin beta/transportin family of nuclear import receptors and is specific for the essential splicing factors termed SR proteins, binding specifically and directly to the arginine/serine (RS)-rich domains of these proteins. Further experiments demonstrated that this interaction occurs only when these RS domains are phosphorylated. More recently, TNPO3 was identified as an HIV dependency factor (HDF) and that depletion of TNPO3 resulted in HIV inhibition after reverse transcription but before integration, suggesting that TNPO3 may be an important drug target in HIV treatment. At least three isoforms of TNPO3 are known to exist.

Description: Ribonucleoside-diphosphate reductase functions as a heterodimer of a large and a small subunits in deoxyribonucleotide synthesis. RRM1 constitutes to the large subunit (R1) of ribonucleotide reductase, and it can either form heterodimer with small subunit RRM or RRM2B. RRM1 provides the precursors necessary for DNA synthesis. RRM1 can not be detected in quiescent cells, while its mRNA and protein are present throughout the cell cycle in cycling cells. Researches showed that RRM1 is involved in carcinogenesis, tumor progression, and the resistance of non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) to treatment. Low level expression of RRM1 in NSCLC is associated with poor survival.

Description: TNNI3K, also known as CARK, is a 936 amino acid serine/threonine-protein kinase that is highly expressed in heart. Overexpression of TNNI3K leads to improved cardiac function by enhancing beating frequency and increasing contractile force and epinephrine response. TNNI3K suppresses phosphorylation of cardiac troponin I and p38/JNK-mediated apoptosis, therefore protecting the myocardium from ischemic injury. Administration of TNNI3K to mice with myocardial infarction improves cardiac performance and attentuates ventricular remodeling, suggesting that TNNI3K could be a promising target in the treatment of cardiac diseases. There are four isoforms of TNNI3K that are produced as a result of alternative splicing events.

Description: This gene encodes a member of the lipoxygenase gene family and plays a dual role in the synthesis of leukotrienes from arachidonic acid. The encoded protein, which is expressed specifically in bone marrow-derived cells, catalyzes the conversion of arachidonic acid to 5(S)-hydroperoxy-6-trans-8,11,14-cis-eicosatetraenoic acid, and further to the allylic epoxide 5(S)-trans-7,9-trans-11,14-cis-eicosatetrenoic acid (leukotriene A4). Leukotrienes are important mediators of a number of inflammatory and allergic conditions. Mutations in the promoter region of this gene lead to a diminished response to antileukotriene drugs used in the treatment of asthma and may also be associated with atherosclerosis and several cancers. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed, but their full-length nature has not been determined.

Description: IFN-beta Antibody: Type I Interferons (IFN-alpha/beta) are produced primarily in response to viral infection by "Natural IFN-producing cells" (IPCs) as part of the host immune response and can also inhibit the development of tumors. IFN-beta binding by its receptor results in the activation of the tyrosine kinases Jak1 and Tyk2 and phosphorylation of members of the STAT family of transcription factors, leading to the transcription and expression of the immune response genes. More recently, several members of the toll-like receptor (TLR) family were found to stimulate the production IFN-beta. IFN-beta is currently used clinically for treatment of tumors, infections and multiple sclerosis.
