Description: This NPY analog is a highly potent and selective ligand for Y₁ receptors in different cell lines and tissues. It has therefore been used to detect the NPY/PYY receptor subtype distribution, e.g., in rat brain. The peptide is also active in vivo, showing an even higher potency than NPY in increasing blood pressure in anesthetized rats.

Description: Alarin, APAHRSSTFPKWVTKTERGRQPLRS, is derived from a splice variant of galanin-like peptide (GALP) RNA. It shows potent and dose-dependent vasoconstrictor and anti-edema activity in the cutaneous microvasculature, as was also observed with other members of the galanin peptide family. Since alarin only shares five amino acids with GALP it is unlikely that the peptide can activate GALP-specific receptors. The neuropeptide has been reported to be expressed in ganglionic cells of human neuroblastic tumors and might therefore represent a potential tumor marker.

Description: Adropin is a secreted factor involved in energy homeostasis and lipid metabolism. It is encoded by the energy homeostasis associated gene (Enho) and is expressed in liver and brain. In diet-induced obesity (DIO) mice Adropin (34-76) attenuated hepatosteatosis and insulin reistance independently of adiposity or food intake. Additionally, adropin could be a regulator of endothelial function.

Description: Neuromedin U is a neuropeptide which is widely distributed in the gut and central nervous system. Initially isolated from porcine spinal cord it was named for its uterine contractile activity. In fasted rats neuromedin U expression in certain brain areas is lower than in fed rats. In animal studies with neuromedin-23 (rat) overnight food intake is significantly reduced indicating that neuromedin U may be a physiological regulator of food intake. IC₅₀ values for the binding of neuromedin U-25 (human) to the human neuromedin U receptors NMU1R and NMU2R are 2.7 nM and 1.8 nM, respectively.

Description: Annexin A1 (AnxA1) N-terminal-derived peptide, also known as Ac2-26, mimics the antiinflammatory effects of AnxA1. Ac2-26 can activate all three formyl peptide receptor family members FPR, FPR-like (FPRL)1 and FPRL2 at similar concentations. It represents the first endogenous ligand for FPRL2. In myocardial ischemia-reperfusion injury experiments the peptide showed cardioprotective effects. Understanding the underlying mechanism may help developing novel therapeutics for acute cardioprotection.

Description: Galanin-like peptide (GALP) is a 60 amino acid neuropeptide first isolated from the porcine hypothalamus and subsequently also identified in rats and humans. GALP exhibits a higher affinity (~18-fold) for the GALR2 receptor compared to the GALR1 receptor, whereas galanin is relatively non-selective. Investigations of the physiological role of GALP revealed that GALP induces food intake with a ten times higher orexigenic activity than galanin. Furthermore, GALP could affect the emotional state in the CNS. Therefore, GALP represents an orexigenic and anxiogenic peptide.

Description: MOG peptide (35-55) is highly encephalitogenic and can induce strong T and B cell responses. A single injection of this peptide produces a relapsing-remitting neurologic disease with extensive plaque-like demyelination. Because of the clinical, histopathologic, and immunologic similarities with multiple sclerosis (MS), this MOGinduced demyelinating encephalomyelitis may serve as a model for investigating MS.
