Description: ATP5B is a subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase. Mitochondrial ATP synthase catalyzes ATP synthesis, utilizing an electrochemical gradient of protons across the inner membrane during oxidative phosphorylation. ATP synthase is composed of two linked multi-subunit complexes: the soluble catalytic core, F1, and the membrane-spanning component, Fo, comprising the proton channel. The catalytic portion of mitochondrial ATP synthase consists of 5 different subunits (alpha, beta, gamma, delta, and epsilon) assembled with a stoichiometry of 3 alpha, 3 beta, and a single representative of the other 3. The proton channel consists of three main subunits (a, b, c). ATP5B is the beta subunit of the catalytic core. This gene encodes a subunit of mitochondrial ATP synthase. Description: ATP5J, also known as coupling factor 6 (CF6), is a soluble integral component of mitochondrial ATP synthase. Mitochondrial ATP synthase is a multi-subunit membrane-bound enzyme that catalyzes the synthesis of ATP by utilizing a proton electrochemical gradient. It consists of three domains, namely the extrinsic and intrinsic membrane domains (F1 and F0, respectively) joined by a stalk.CF6 is one of the subunits in the stalk and an essential component for energy transduction. Recently CF6 has also been reported to play a crucial role in the development of insulin resistance and hypertension. CF6 is first synthesized as an immature form in the cytosol, then transported to the mitochondria by an import signal peptide and becomes an active form with the signal peptide cleaved. Western blot analysis of CF6 demonstrates a single band around 9kD to 12 kD in various tissues including heart, liver, brain and HUVEC (human umbilical vein endothelial cells).

MAGEF1, however, is expressed in all adult and fetal tissues tested, as well as in many tumor types including ovarian, breast, cervical, melanoma and leukemia. The coding region of MAGE-F1 is contained within a single exon and includes a microsatellite repeat. Several MAGE genes are ubiquitously expressed suggesting a role for MAGE encoded proteins in normal cell physiology.

Description: MEK2 antibodies detect the MEK2 isoform.  Mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase 2, also known as MEK2 or MKK2, is an integral component of the MAP kinase cascade that regulates cell growth and differentiation.   This pathway also plays a key role in synaptic plasticity in the brain.  Activated MEK 2 acts as a dual specificity kinase phosphorylating both a threonine and a tyrosine residue on MAP kinase.   MEK1 and MEK2 are about 80% identical to each other, and nearly identical within the kinase domain.   The MEK2 antibody is ideal for investigators involved in Neuroscience, Cell Signaling and Cancer Research.

Description: The neuronal growth-associated protein GAP43 is also known as neuromodulin, B-50, P-57, F1 and pp46. Deficiency of GAP43 in mice results in death early in the postnatal period. GAP43 is one of the main substrates for protein kinase C in the brain. GAP43 is an intracellular growth-associated protein that appears to assist neuronal pathfinding and branching during development and regeneration, and may contribute to presynaptic membrane changes in the adult, leading to the neurotransmitter release, endocytosis and synaptic vesicle recycling, long-term potentiation, spatial memory formation, and learning. The predicated molecular weight of about 25 kDa is much lower than the apparent observed molecular weight of 43 kDa on SDS-PAGE gels, and this occurs because the highly charged nature of GAP43 causes it to bind less than the average amount of SDS per amino acid, and because the protein has an elongated structure.

Description: Pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF) is a 47 kDa secreted glycoprotein that belongs to the non-inhibitory serpin family group. PEDF is widely expressed in adult and foetal tissues, including brain, spinal cord, plasma, bone, prostate, pancreas, heart and lung. PEDF acts as an angiogenesis inhibitor with neurotrophic, immunomodulation and antitumor properties. It functions as anti-angiogenic agent by counterbalancing the proangiogenic effect of VEGF. PEDF is one of the most abundant proteins released by adipocytes and induces insulin resistance in adipocytes and human skeletal muscle cells. Recently, it has been reported that PEDF is sufficient to maintain the self-renewal of pluripotent human embryonic stem cells.

Description: Steroidogenic factor-1 (SF-1,STF-1), also known as NR5A1, regulates multiple genes involved in the adrenal and gonadal development and in the biosynthesis of a variety of hormones, including adrenal and gonadal steroids, anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), and gonadotropins. SF-1 belongs to the fushi tarazu factor-1 (FTZ-F1) subfamily of orphan nuclear receptors. Initially identified as a tissue-specific transcriptional regulator of cytochrome P450 steroid hydroxylases, research studies of both global and tissue-specific knockout mice have demonstrated that SF-1 is required for the development of adrenal glands, gonads, ventromedial hypothalamus, and for the proper functioning of pituitary gonadotropes. Indeed, humans with mutations that render SF-1 transcriptionally inactive can present with testicular failure, ovarian failure, and adrenal insufficiency. Furthermore, dysregulation of SF-1 has been linked to diseases such as endometriosis and adrenocortical carcinoma.Like other nuclear hormone receptors, SF-1 has a modular domain structure composed of an N-terminal zinc finger DNA-binding domain, a ligand-binding domain, a C-terminal AF-2 activation domain, and a hinge region with AF-1-like activation activity. SF-1 also contains a fushi tarazu factor 1 box, which functions as an accessory DNA binding domain. SF-1 is primarily phosphorylated at Ser203, which is thought to enhance its transcriptional activity by promoting complex formation with transcriptional cofactors. In addition to phosphorylation at Ser203, SF-1 is subject to SUMO conjugation and acetylation at ε-amino groups of target lysine residues. Whereas SUMOylation represses SF-1 function, acetylation enhances its transcriptional activity. In the adult ovary, SF-1 localizes to theca/interstitial cells.
