Physarum is a plasmodial slime mold found in cool, humid, dark locations. Its life cycle is easy to manipulate in culture, and it exhibits protoplasmic streaming and multinucleate cellular condition in the plasmodial stage, all of which make it an ideal subject for in-depth study. Two stages of Physarum are supplied, one in the plasmodial stage and one in the sclerotial stage, which is a resting state the Physarum converts to in environments with unfavorable temperatures and moisture. Three suggested activities detail how to establish actively growing plasmodia, demonstrate protoplasmic streaming, and establish sclerotial stages. Cultures: Physarum polycephalum (plasmodial stage, sclerotial stage).
