Pierce™ β-Galactosidase Assay Kits, Thermo Scientific
Supplier: Thermo Scientific
Detect more β-galactosidase activity by lysing the cells efficiently.
- Choose stand-alone assay reagent or complete kit for cell lysis and detection
- Colorimetric assay easily measured in a plate reader or spectrophotometer (405 nm)
- Adaptable to 96-well microplates or tube assay formats
- Perform homogeneous screening assays or measure activity secondarily after cell lysis
- Compatible with prepared lysates from other species, such as bacteria
The mammalian β-galactosidase assay reagent allows for the extraction of 60% more proteins from either cell or lysate-based assays than other lysing reagents
The yeast assay kit allows for the qualitative or quantitative determination of β-galactosidase activity in samples taken directly from colonies growing on solid medium. After a brief incubation period, the solution turns yellow. To make the assay quantitative, the quantity of cells present in the solution can be determined before running the assay. In addition, to working with yeast cells, the protocol can also be used with all types of bacterial cells.
In addition, the protocol contains less than half the steps required for traditional mammalian cell lysing, allowing it to be completed in about 30 minutes. Stopping the reactions is optional, so if time is an issue, the absorbance can be measured without stopping the reactions.
Delivery information: Kit contains β-Galactosidase Assay Reagent (25 mL), M-PER™ Mammalian Protein Extraction Reagent (25 mL) and β-Galactosidase Assay Stop Reagent (25 mL).
