LHRH is also called Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone (GnRH) or Luteinizing Hormone-Releasing Factor (LRF).

Contrary to mammals and other classes of species, the sequences of GnRH I-III found in fish show a high diversity. H-4258, Lamprey GnRH III (peforelin) has found use in veterinary medicine and the sGnRH analog H-9205 in aquaculture.

Lamprey GnRH (also called peforelin) is a highly potent and specific FSH-releasing peptide that may enhance fertility in animals and humans. The peptide has found application in stimulating FSH release in swine. Peforelin surpasses GnRH in suppressing the growth of MDA-MB-231 and MCF-7 breast cancer cells. In comparison to other GnRH-III analogs, the peptide exhibits a superior antitumor activity.
