Description: SRPX2 Antibody: Sushi-repeat-containing protein X-linked 2 (SRPX2) is a neural gene functioning in the speech and language center of the human brain; mutations in this gene lead to epilepsy, speech dyspraxia, mental retardation and cognitive disorders. Recently, SRPX2 was found to be a novel mediator of angiogenesis and can act as a ligand for the urokinase-type plasminogen activator, a protein that can facilitate invasive migration of sprouting endothelial cells. SRPX2 is also overexpressed in gastric cancer, leading to increased phosphorylation levels of focal adhesion kinase and enhanced cellular migration and adhesion, suggesting that SRPX2 may be a potential target in the treatment of metastatic cancers.

Description: RTP801 Antibody: RTP801 was initially identified as a gene induced by DNA damage, and later found to also be regulated by other cellular stresses such as hypoxia and glucocorticoid treatment. Recently, RTP801 has been shown to act as a mediator of tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC)-dependent regulation of the mammalian Target of Rapamycin (mTOR), an evolutionarily conserved serine/threonine kinase that regulates cell growth and cell cycle. In response to energy stress, RTP801 inhibits mTOR function, resulting in dephosphorylation of downstream targets such as ribosomal protein S6 kinase 1 and 4EBP1 and decreasing cell growth. Disregulation of RTP801 may thus contribute to human tumorigenesis.

Description: MINA Antibody: MINA is nuclear localized, myc-inducible protein that is thought to play a role in mammalian cell proliferation. Treatment of cancer cells lines such as the colon cancer cell line SW680 with siRNA against MINA inhibits cell growth, demonstrating that MINA may be a potential therapeutic target. MINA regulates several genes related to cell adhesion and metabolism that have also been shown to be regulated by c-Myc, but also regulates other genes whose expression are not modulated by c-Myc such as EGFR, IL-6 and HGF. MINA has also been found to act as a repressor to IL-4 expression in T cells, indicating that it may also play a role in T cell differentiation and genetic variation in T helper type 2 bias.

Description: IL-1RAcP Antibody: The pro-inflammatory cytokine IL-1 induced cellular response requires two subunits of its receptor, IL-1 receptor I(IL-1RI) and IL-1 receptor accessory protein (IL-1RAcP). IL-1 RAcP forms a complex with IL-1RI in response to IL-1 treatment. The IL-1 receptor-associated kinase (IRAK), which mediates activation of NF-kappa B inducing kinae (NIK) and of NF-kappa B, recruites to the IL-1R complex through IL-1 RAcP. IL-1 activation of stress-activated protein kinase and of acid sphingomyelinase also requires IL-1RAcP. Like IL-1RI, IL-1RAcP subunit is essential for IL-1 mediated cellular response. IL-1RAcP is expressed in many tissues.

Description: Lin28 Antibody: Lin28 is a transcription factor that was first identified through its key role in the pathway of developmental timing in C. elegans. The role of Lin28 in development suggested that it might be useful in the creation of stem cells that might be beneficial in cell replacement therapies in the treatment of several degenerative diseases. Artificial stem cells, termed induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells, can be created by expressing Lin28 in addition to the transcription factors POU5F1, Sox2, and NANOG in mouse fibroblasts. More recently, experiments have demonstrated that iPS cells could be generated using expression plasmids expressing Lin28, Sox2, POU5F1 and c-Myc, eliminating the need for virus introduction, thereby addressing a safety concern for potential use of iPS cells in regenerative medicine.

Description: PION Antibody: Accumulation of the amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta) in the cerebral cortex is a critical event in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. The beta-amyloid protein precursor (APP) is cleaved by one of two beta-secretases (BACE and BACE2), producing a soluble derivative of the protein and a membrane anchored 99 -amino acid carboxy-terminal fragment (C99). The C99 fragment serves as substrate for gamma-secretase to generate the 4 kDa amyloid-beta peptide (Abeta), which is deposited in the Alzheimer's disease patient's brains. PION, or GSAP, selectively increases amyloid-beta production through a mechanism involving its interaction with both gamma-secretase and the APP C-terminal fragment, suggesting that PION may be a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.

Description: ZIP10 Antibody: ZIP10, also known as Slc39A10, is a widely expressed zinc transporter with nine transmembrane domains. Zinc is an essential ion for cells and plays significant roles in the growth, development, and differentiation. ZIP10 mRNA was found to be significantly decreased in the intestines and kidneys of hypothyroid rats and increased in those of hyperthyroid rats, indicating that ZIP10 is positively regulated by thyroid hormones. ZIP10 mRNA was also found to be upregulated in invasive and metastatic breast cancer and cell lines, suggesting that ZIP10 could serve as a possible marker for the metastatic phenotype and possibly a target for novel treatment strategies. At least three isoforms of ZIP10 are known to exist.

Description: Cytochrome c oxidase (COX) is the terminal component of the mitochondrial respiratory chain, catalyzes the electron transfer from reduced cytochrome c to oxygen. The mitochondrially encoded subunits function in electron transfer, and the nuclear encoded subunits may function in the regulation and assembly of the complex. COX7A2L (cytochrome c oxidase subunit 7A-related protein), also known as COX7AR or COX7RP, is an inner mitochondrial membrane protein. This gene is expressed in all tissues, and upregulated in a breast cancer cell line after estrogen treatment. Recently it was found that DNA mythylation of COX7A2L had a significant association with therapy response in patients with breast cancer. In Alzheimer’s disease the expression of COX7A2L was reduced.

Description: The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the Ras guanyl nucleotide-releasing protein (RasGRP) family of Ras guanine nucleotide exchange factors. It contains a Ras exchange motif, a diacylglycerol-binding domain, and two calcium-binding EF hands. This protein was shown to activate H-Ras in a cation-dependent manner in vitro. Expression of this protein in myeloid cell lines was found to be correlated with elevated level of activated RAS protein, and the RAS activation can be greatly enhanced by phorbol ester treatment, which suggested a role of this protein in diacylglycerol regulated cell signaling pathways. Studies of a mast cell leukemia cell line expressing substantial amounts of abnormal transcripts of this gene indicated that this gene may play an important role in the final stages of mast cell development. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. [provided by RefSeq, Apr 2009].

Description: Intermedins are members of the calcitonin/CGRP family. In vitro studies have shown that the synthetic 47 amino acid intermedin peptides act through the calcitonin receptor-like receptor/receptor activity-modifying protein (CRLR/RAMP) complexes by increasing intracellular cAMP levels. Unlike calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) and adrenomedullin (ADM) intermedin exhibited no preference for one of the three RAMPs when co-expressed with CRLR. In normal and spontaneously hypertensive rats it has been demonstrated that intermedin treatment results in blood pressure reduction which can be blocked by the CGRP receptor antagonist CGRP (8-37). Apart from the hypotensive action, synthetic intermedin has also been shown to inhibit gastric emptying and food intake in mice. Therefore, intermedin represents an additional regulator of gastrointestinal and cardiovascular functions and might be involved in other bioactivities mediated by the CRLR/RAMP receptor complexes

Description: The c-Myc protein is a transcription factor, which is encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. c-Myc is commonly activated in a variety of tumor cells and plays an important role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis and cell cycle progression. The phosphorylation of c-Myc has been investigated and previous studies have suggested a functional association between phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by glycogen synthase kinase 3, cyclin-dependent kinase, ERK2 and C-Jun N-terminal Kinase (JNK) in cell proliferation and cell cycle regulation. Studies also have shown that c-Myc is essential for tumor cell development in vasculogenesis and angiogenesis that distribute blood throughout the cells, and which brought extensive attention in the development of new therapeutic approach for cancer treatment.

Description: B-ATF is a nuclear basic leucine zipper protein that belongs to the AP-1/ATF superfamily of transcription factors. The leucine zipper of B-ATF mediates dimerization with members of the Jun family of proteins. The B-ATF protein does not homodimerize efficiently, but rather forms a heterodimer preferentially with c-Jun. The B-ATF/c-Jun protein complex can interact with DNA containing a consensus binding site for AP-1, suggesting that B-ATF functions as a tissue-specific modulator of the AP-1 transcription complex in human cells. B-ATF also associates with IFP35, a leucine zipper protein that translocates to the nucleus following IFN treatment. The gene encoding B-ATF, also designated SFA-2, is strongly expressed in mature T and B lymphocytes, and is up-regulated after transformation by human T-cell leukemia virus type I.

Description: GPR120, a member of the rhodopsin family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), is a 377 amino acid protein which is expressed in the intestine. GPR120 is a receptor for unsaturated long-chain FFAs (free fatty acids). FFAs act as signaling molecules and are an important energy source. They also employ various physiological responses through their GPCRs. One such response occurs when dietary FFAs stimulate GPR120. This stimulation promotes the secretion of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) in vivo and in vitro. GLP-1 belongs to the class of molecules known as the incretins, which are associated with insulin secreted from the pancreas as a result of food intake. GLP-1 also inhibits glucagon and gastric acid secretion and gastric emptying. Consequently, the role of GPR120 in the secretion of GLP-1 is critical in the treatment of diabetes.
