Description: CCDC36 , also known as CT74 (cancer/testis antigen 74), is a 584 amino acid protein that contains coiled-coil domains and is expressed as three alternatively spliced isoforms. The gene encoding CCDC36 maps to human chromosome 3, which houses over 1,100 genes, including a chemokine receptor (CKR) gene cluster and a variety of human cancer-related gene loci. Key tumor suppressing genes on chromosome 3 include those that encode the apoptosis mediator RASSF1, the cell migration regulator HYAL1 and the angiogenesis suppressor SEMA3B. Marfan Syndrome, porphyria, von Hippel-Lindau syndrome, osteogenesis imperfecta and Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease are a few of the numerous genetic diseases associated with chromosome 3.

Description: MUC1 is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic cell lineages. It is expressed on most secretory epithelium, including mammary gland and some hematopoietic cells. It is expressed abundantly in lactating mammary glands and overexpressed abundantly in >90% breast carcinomas and metastases. Transgenic MUC1 has been shown to associate with all four cebB receptors and localize with erbB1 (EGFR) in lactating glands. The MUC1 gene contains seven exons and produces several different alternatively spliced variants. The major expressed form of MUC1 uses all seven exons and is a type 1 transmembrane protein with a large extracellular tandem repeat domain. The tandem repeat domain is highly O glycosylated and alterations in glycosylation have been shown in epithelial cancer cells.

Description: WD-repeats are motifs that are found in a variety of proteins and are characterized by a conserved core of 40-60 amino acids that commonly form a tertiary propeller structure. While proteins that contain WD-repeats participate in a wide range of cellular functions, they are generally involved in regulatory mechanisms concerning chromatin assembly, cell cycle control, signal transduction, RNA processing, apoptosis and vesicular trafficking. WDR40A (WD-repeat-containing protein 40A), also known as DDB1- CUL4-associated factor 12, is a 453 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that contains four WD-repeats. WDR40A is highly expressed in some cancer cell lines, lung cancer tissues and normal testis. A probable substrate receptor for CUL4-DDB1 E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase complex, WRD40A is suggested to interact with DDB1. WDR40A is encoded by a gene mapping to human chromosome 9p13.3. Human chromosome 9 houses over 900 genes and comprises nearly 4% of the human genome.

Description: Breast cancer metastasis-suppressor 1 (BRMS1) is 246 amino acid protein that acts as a mediator of metastasis suppression in several types of cancer including ovarian, lung, bladder, and murine mammary. BRMS1 mRNA is expressed in various tissues, including ovary, prostate, testis, and colon, but the protein is primarily detected in term placenta. BRMS1 suppresses metastasis without inhibiting tumorigenicity by modifying several metastasis-associated phenotypes. BRMS1 may participate in transcriptional regulation by binding to the mSin3/histone deacetylase complex. The expression of BRMS1 in certain cells increases connexin Cx43 expression and reduces connexin Cx32 expression. This produces a gap junction that increases intercellular communication, similar to those found in normal breast tissue. BRMS1 is stabilized by Hsp90 and may inhibit NF-_B activity.
