Description: Epitope tagging is a recombinant DNA method by which a protein encoded by a cloned gene is made immunoreactive to a known antibody. Major areas ofapplication include monitoring protein expression, localizing proteins at thecellular and subcellular levels, and protein purification, as well as the analysis of protein topology, dynamics and interactions. Due to their small size, theyare unlikely to affect the tagged protein's biochemical properties.S1 tag is an epitope tag composed of a nine-residue peptide, NANNPDWDF, derived from the hepatitis B virus preS1 region. Epitope tags consisting ofshort sequences recognized by well-characterizated antibodies have beenwidely used in the study of protein expression in various systems.

Description: Pesticides, PCBs and Herbicides

The EPA is tasked with the monitoring of environmental systems as they pertain to contamination and human health. The methods issued by the EPA are created to respond to specific toxins or persistent organic pollutants (POPs) found in environmental samples such as soil, source water, drinking water, and waste. In particular, pollutants such as polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which were in widespread industrial use up until their restriction, are of concern due to their stable and persistent nature in the environment. Another group of chemicals of high concern is the hundreds of commercial pesticides and herbicides in use in the world today. Pesticides, from algaecides to virucides, are used in large quantities in industrial and private agriculture. The concern over human pesticide exposure over the past few decades has led to extensive monitoring of these pesticides. It has been reported that over 98% of insecticides and 95% of herbicides affect areas other than their intended target product. It is essential that monitoring agencies have accurate standard mixes to measure the pesticide levels in the environment.

Many new pesticides are now being tested using highly sensitive LC/MS techniques, in addition to traditional GC techniques, to determine minute amounts of residue in environmental samples and food products.

At SPEX CertiPrep, we facilitate ease of monitoring and testing of pesticides by creating pesticide test mixes to suit your monitoring needs. SPEX CertiPrep is the leader in offering pesticide standards designed to work within EPA, AOAC and FDA analytical testing methods using all of the leading analytical techniques: LC, LC/MS, GC, and GC/MS. Many pesticide standard mixes are readily available in our catalog along with a large list of single pesticide standards. In addition, custom pesticide mixes can be made to your specifications to create a mix that meets your needs.

US EPA Method 8082 is an analytical method for the monitoring of PCBs in environmental samples by GC/ECD or GC/ELCD

Description: BUB1B(Mitotic checkpoint serine/threonine-protein kinase BUB1 beta) is lalso named as BUBR1, MAD3L, SSK1 and belongs to the BUB1 subfamily. Human BUB1B is a 120 kDa protein that plays a central role in the spindle assembly checkpoint (SAC), the evolutionary conserved and self-regulatory system of higher organisms that monitors and repairs defects in chromosome segregation in mitotic cells. In addition to phosphorylation, BUB1B is also subjected to posttranslational modifications including acetylation. Defects in BUB1B are the cause of premature chromatid separation trait (PCS) and mosaic variegated aneuploidy syndrome type 1 (MVA1).

Supplier: Electron Microscopy Sciences
Description: This section offers you a simple system of stainless steel well bars, chucks and freezing blocks, kept cold in cryostat, allow you to perform a variety of precision embedding techniques addressing the most difficult embedding tasks with ease and minimum time needed. 20 to 60 seconds needed to freeze (depending on the well size). Multiple samples handled quickly with no monitoring necessary (for placement of heat extractor). Precise flat or on edge embedding, predictable orientation, liquid samples easily embedded and no crush artifact caused by heat extractor weight. Reduce tissue waste with less trimming the result of flat plane of embedding. Minute samples embedding in the same plane.  Less cryostat adjustments necessary, comfortably preformed on a shelf just inside most cryostats. Easy to use and saves time.

Supplier: Genetex
Description: AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is a heterotrimeric protein composed of a catalytic alpha subunit, a noncatalytic beta subunit, and a noncatalytic regulatory gamma subunit. Various forms of each of these subunits exist, encoded by different genes. AMPK is an important energy-sensing enzyme that monitors cellular energy status and functions by inactivating key enzymes involved in regulating de novo biosynthesis of fatty acid and cholesterol. This gene is a member of the AMPK gamma subunit family and encodes a protein with four cystathionine beta-synthase domains. Mutations in this gene have been associated with ventricular pre-excitation (Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome), progressive conduction system disease and cardiac hypertrophy. Alternate transcriptional splice variants, encoding different isoforms, have been characterized. [provided by RefSeq]

Description: Melanoma Inhibitory Activity Protein (MIA) is an autocrine growth regulatory protein secreted from chondrocytes and malignant melanoma cells, which was the first discovered member of a family of secreted cytokines termed the MIA/OTOR family. The four known members of this family: MIA, MIA2, OTOR and TANGO each contain a Src homology-3 (SH3)-like domain. MIA acts as a potent tumor cell growth inhibitor for malignant melanoma cells and some other neuroectodermal tumors, including gliomas, in an autocrine fashion and promotes melanoma metastasis by binding competitively to fibronectin and laminin in a manner that results in melanoma cell detachment from the extracellular matrix in vivo. The protein MIA has been shown to represent a very sensitive and specific serum marker for systemic malignant melanoma that might be useful for staging of primary melanomas, detection of progression from localized to metastatic disease during follow-up, and monitoring therapy of advanced melanomas. Elevated levels of MIA may represent a clinically useful marker for diagnosis of melanoma metastasis as well as a potential marker for rheumatoid arthritis.
