Description: Type V collagen is a member of group I collagen (fibrillar forming collagen). It is a minor connective tissue component of nearly ubiquitous distribution. Type V collagen binds to DNA, heparan sulfate, thrombospondin, heparin, and insulin. Collagen V is composed of several subunits as follows: trimers of two alpha 1(V) and one alpha 2(V) chains in most tissues and trimers of one alpha 1(V), one alpha 2(V), and one alpha 3(V) chains in placenta. Type V Collagen is closely related to type XI collagen and it is possible that the collagen chains of types V and XI constitute a single collagen type with tissue specific chain combinations. Mutations in this gene are associated with Ehlers Danlos syndrome, types I and II.

Description: ABCC1 is a member of the superfamily of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. ABC proteins transport various molecules across extra-and intra-cellular membranes. ABC genes are divided into seven distinct subfamilies (ABC1, MDR/TAP, MRP, ALD, OABP, GCN20, White). This full transporter is a member of the MRP subfamily which is involved in multi-drug resistance. This protein functions as a multispecific organic anion transporter, with oxidized glutatione, cysteinyl leukotrienes, and activated aflatoxin B1 as substrates. This protein also transports glucuronides and sulfate conjugates of steroid hormones and bile salts. Alternative splicing by exon deletion results in several splice variants but maintains the original open reading frame in all forms. Description: NOTUM Antibody: In Drosophila, the notum gene is regulated by the Wingless pathway and encodes a secreted hydrolase that modifies heparan sulfate proteoglycans. The mammalian homolog has been shown to be able to cleave glypicans and can release GPI-anchored proteins from the mammalian cell surface. Like the Drosophilia NOTUM, the mammalian protein can act as a negative regulator of the Wnt signaling pathway. NOTUM is expressed at a low level in most mammalian tissues, although it is overexpressed in a subset of human hepatocellular carcinomas. Its transcription is regulated by beta-catenin/TCF and is a target of the Wnt signaling pathway, forming a negative feedback loop that regulates the expression and activity of the Wnt pathway.

Description: Mouse vascular endothelial growth factor 164 (VEGF 164) is produced as a homodimer. It binds to the FLT1/VEGFR1 and KDR/VEGFR2 receptors, heparan sulfate and heparin. It is a specific mitogen for vascular endothelial cells and a strong angiogenic factor in vivo. In addition to its action as a mitogen it is a potent vascular permeability factor (VPF) in vivo and is also a chemoattractant for monocytes and endothelial cells. It induces endothelial cell proliferation, promotes cell migration, inhibits apoptosis and induces permeabilization of blood vessels. It may play a role in increasing vascular permeability during lactation, when increased transport of molecules from the blood is required for efficient milk protein synthesis.

Description: The MEL-14 monoclonal antibody specifically reacts with L- selectin (CD62L), a receptor with lectin-like and Epidermal Growth Factor-like domains. The weight of the CD62L molecules depend on their origin, 74 kDa on lymphocytes or 95 kDa on neutrophils. In the mouse organism, CD62L can be expressed by most thymocytes, on subsets of B and T lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and neutrophils. The L-selectin binds sulfated, fucosylated, and glycosylated glycoproteins (MadCAM-1, GLYCAM-1, and CD 34). It mediates the migration of lymphocytes to the site of inflammation and their return to the peripheral lymphoid tissues and to the HEV (high endothelial venules). In vitro, L-selectin inhibits this binding and the lymphocyte extravasation into peripheral lymph nodes. After cell activation, it is quickly shed by neutrophils and lymphocytes.

Description: Heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor (HB-EGF) is a 22kDa O-glycosylated protein that is a potent mitogen and chemoattractant for vascular smooth muscle cells, fibroblasts and epithelial cells but not endothelial cells. The natural protein has an apparent molecular mass of 19-23 kDa and exists in multiple forms as a result of heterogeneous O-glycosylation and/or Nterminal truncation. HB-EGF is synthesized as a membrane-anchored precursor(proHB-EGF) that is proteolytically cleaved to release the soluble mature growth factor. The two forms are active as juxtacrine and paracrine/autocrine growth factors respectively.HB-EGF activates two EGF receptor subtypes, HER1/ErbB1 and HER4 and binds to heparan sulfate proteoglycan.

Description: Agar is a polysaccharide complex extracted by bleaching and hot water treatment of agarocytes from the red alga Rhodophyceae, and usually consisting of the genera Gelidium, Acanthopeltis, Ceramium, Pterocladia and Gracilaria. The algae are typically found in the Pacific and Indian Oceans and in the Sea of Japan. It is primarily composed of two different units: Agarose and Agaropectin; Agarose is a neutral gelling component which is composed of a linear polymer of alternating D-galactose and 3,6-anhydrogalactose units. Agaropectin is a non-gelling component which consists of D-1,3-glycosidically linked D-galactose units, some of which are sulfated at the 6th position.
Agar is specially purified for use in preparing solid culture media for microbiological and bacteriological applications.

Description: APRIL is a cytokine that belongs to the TNF superfamily and binds to TACI and BCMA. It is implicated in the regulation of tumor cell growth, is involved in monocyte/macrophage-mediated immunological processes and functions as an important survival factor for plasmablasts and bone marrow plasma cells. MultimericAPRIL™ is a high activity construct in which two trimeric APRIL ligands are artificially linked via the collagen domain of ACRP30. This construct very effectively stimulates proliferation B cell. A basic amino acid sequence (QKQKKQ) close to the N-terminus of APRIL is required for binding to negatively charged sulfated glycosaminoglycan side chains of proteoglycans. Proteoglycans mediate binding of APRIL to tumor cells as well as primary lymphoid cells.

Description: Slc35D1 Antibody: The solute carrier family Slc35 consists of at least 17 proteins that act as nucleotide sugar transporters localized to the Golgi apparatus and endoplasmic reticulum. The role of the ER-resident Slc family member Slc35D1 is to transport both UDP-glucuronic acid and UDP-N-acetylgalactosamine. These molecules can serve as substrates for chondroitin sulfate biosynthesis and mice lacking the Slc35D1 gene developed a lethal form of skeletal dysplasia with severe shortening of limbs and facial structures. Examination of epiphyseal cartilage in these mice revealed a decreased proliferating zone with round chrondrocytes, scarce matrices, and reduced proteoglycan aggregates. Loss of function mutations in human Slc35D1 cause Schneckenbecken dysplasia, a severe skeletal dysplasia.

Description: VEGF165 is the most abundant splice variant of VEGF-A. VEGF165 is produced by a number of cells including endothelial cells, macrophages and T cells. VEGF165 is involved in angiogenesis, vascular endothelial cell survival, growth, migration and vascular permeability. VEGF gene expression is induced by hypoxia, inflammatory cytokines and oncogenes. VEGF165 binds to heparan sulfate and is retained on the cell surface and in the extracellular matrix. VEGF165 binds to the receptor tyrosine kinases, VEGFR1 and VEGFR2. VEGF165 is the only splice variant that binds to co-receptors NRP-1 and NRP-2 that function to enhance VEGFR2 signaling. Binding of VEGF165 to VEGFR1 and VEGFR2 leads to activation of the PI3K/AKT, p38 MAPK, FAK and paxillin. VEGF plays a key role in tumor angiogenesis in many cancers.
