The Successive Alleys test is a novel anxiety test that utilizes fear of open spaces as an assay.

In the Successive Alleys test, the most distal regions are white, open, and narrow, which creates an anxiogenic environment. The most proximal, dark areas create anxiogenic areas that encourage natural aversion of open spaces.

The Successive Alleys test for mouse features 4 alleys. Alley 1 is black, and measures 8.5W×25H cm. Alley 2 is grey and measures 8.5W×5H cm. Alley 3 is white and measures 3.5W×0.8H cm. Alley 4 is white and measures 1.2W×0.2H cm.

The Successive Alleys test for rat features 4 alleys. Alley 1 is black and measures 9.0W×29H cm. Alley 2 is grey and measures 9.0W×2.5H cm. Alley 3 is white and measures 6.7W×0.5H cm. Alley 4 is white and measures 3.5W×0.3H cm.
