A client has been searching for a sibling that has been accidentally separated from his family. He has identified three potential candidates and needs help determining which is the true sibling. Each candidate has submitted a DNA sample, as has the client. Student investigators are asked to determine which is the true sibling.
Kit I: Allows students to perform a restriction digest of four DNA samples and compare their sizes via Agarose Gel Electrophoresis.
Kit II: Allows students to amplify four DNA samples via Polymerase Chane Reaction (PCR) and observe visible bands via Agarose Gel Electrophoresis. Includes Master mix (including primers and enzyme) and DNA ladder.
The kit includes four samples of DNA (plasmids). One representing a man looking for his family, and three representing possible matches. After completing the experiment, students will not only solve the crime, but also cement their understanding of the genetic concepts associated with these two experiments.
