IBI Saliva Collection Kits, IBI Scientific
Supplier: IBI Scientific
Cost-effective and non-invasive method to capture saliva samples for DNA extraction.
- Large funnel for easy sample depositing; disconnects for disposal after use
- 2 mL saliva stabilization buffer to preserve integrity of DNA
- Maintains DNA stability at room temperature for several days; stable at 4°C for up to a month
- Standardized for high throughput processing
- Typical DNA yields following IBI DNA Extraction Method: 100 µg
- Optimized for use in either genetic or epigenetic analyses
The IBI Saliva Collection Kit is designed to easily capture and store saliva samples deposited directly from patients
The large, push-on fit funnel allows for easy collection of saliva samples. Once the saliva sample has been deposited in the tube, the funnel can be capped, disconnected from the collection vial, and disposed. The 5mL saliva collection vial is graduated to allow easy assessment of sample volume. A continuous line around the vial indicates the desired 2mL volume mark. After saliva deposition, a 2mL Saliva Stabilization Solution is then added to the saliva collection vial, the vial is closed with a screw-on accessory cap, and then gently shaken to ensure mixing of the saliva with the preservative solution. An identification label is included to label each collection vial.
IBI provides a clear, sealable bag to serve as a barrier in preventing contamination and leaks during storage and transport. Saliva samples are much more cost-effective to ship than blood samples; they can be shipped to a processing center via UPS or FedEx per applicable shipping regulations (see UPS Biological Substances or FedEx - Packaging Guidelines for Clinical Samples for details). The DNA in the saliva sample is stable at room temperature for several days, but suggested storage is at 4°C for up to a month until DNA extraction can be performed.
A DNA Extraction Protocol is included with the IBI Saliva Collection Kit Protocol. The simple protocol typically yields 100µg of DNA from a 2mL saliva specimen. The resulting DNA is suitable for nearly all downstream applications and optimized for epigenetic analyses, i.e. Smoke Signature™. Smoke Signature™ Assay, developed by Behavioral Diagnostics, Inc. (BDI), is a new epigenetic test for quantifying cigarette smoking.
This kit is optimized for use in epigenetic studies.
Packaging: Each saliva collection kit is sealed in an individual package for one-time use.
