Inhibitor test systems detect if there are antibacterial substances within collected samples. Vegetative microorganisms carry out a wide range of metabolic functions. The enzymatic transformation of diverse substrates represents the biochemical basis of cellular metabolism. Diagnostic tests include spores, the durable forms of certain bacteria, which do not display any significant metabolic activity. Upon spore germination, metabolism develops indicating whether the sample is free from inhibitors visually by a change in color.
